More than 2.3 million passengers traveled through six Dominican airports in five months
The airports managed by Aeropuertos Dominicanos XXI Aerodom registered more than 2,300,000 passengers in the first five months of this year. According to statistics, as of May 2022, 2,315,700 domestic and international travelers had passed through the airports managed by the private company.
Ranking places Santo Domingo as the second most expensive city to live in Central America
According to a publication by the renowned firm Forbes Latin America, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, is the second most expensive city to live in Central America and the Caribbean. The ranking, compiled by the company ECA International, places Panama City, Panama, in first place. Following Santo Domingo are Guatemala City, Guatemala; San José, Costa Rica; and Tegucigalpa, Honduras, in third, fourth, and fifth place, respectively.
Unit 1 of Punta Catalina will be out of service over the weekend
Unit 1 of the Punta Catalina Thermoelectric Power Plant will be out of service over the weekend, with the expectation of returning to the system next Monday, the institution's administration reported yesterday, Friday.
Fuel prices will remain unchanged
For the week of June 25 to July 1, 2022, fuel prices will remain unchanged, according to the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and SMEs (MICM). The Ministry of Economy, Planning and Development reports that the 4.7 percent year-on-year growth recorded in the Dominican economy during April of this year reflects the country's "resilience and capacity" to face the unfavorable effects of the international environment on domestic aggregate demand.
Work intensifies on Santiago monorail and cable car
Workers from the contracting companies in charge of building the Santiago monorail and cable car are working on both projects from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. They are currently working at Station 2, on Tamboril Avenue in the Cienfuegos neighborhood; Station 3, on 51st Street in the Mella neighborhood; and on 1st Street in the Espaillat neighborhood.
The Ombudsman's building was left unfinished
On February 21, 2020, the then Ombudsman, Zoila Martínez Guante, and the representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Inka Mattila, broke ground to begin construction of the Ombudsman's headquarters building, the execution of which was entrusted to the international organization through an agreement signed in 2018. Construction to extend the Santo Domingo Metro to the community of Punta, in Villa Mella, Santo Domingo Norte municipality, will begin later this year. According to the Communications Department of the Office for the Reorganization of Transportation (OPRET), the project will take approximately 12 months to complete, with completion expected in late 2023 or early 2024.
Texas crude oil opens with a 1.89% increase, to $106.25
The price of West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil opened Friday with a 1.89% increase, reaching $106.25 per barrel, at a time when the supply of crude is limited, but also amid fears that a possible slowdown in economic activity could lead to a drop in demand in the energy market. At 9:02 a.m. local time in New York (1:02 p.m. GMT), WTI futures contracts for August delivery were up $1.98 compared to the close of the previous session.
