SANTO DOMINGO.-The Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) reported yesterday that, out of a total of 700 infrastructure projects initiated during the current administration, more than 400 works have been completed and delivered to the population in different parts of the country, while 232 are currently underway.
In a statement, the state entity detailed the main constructions it has carried out in the last four years, highlighting those completed in the South, such as the Azua bypass, the remaining link from Ocoa to Rancho Arriba, to connect the Cibao region with the South.
In Greater Santo Domingo, the Ecological Avenue (Section II-A), the Hípica Avenue, and the expansion of the San Isidro Highway improve connectivity in Santo Domingo East. In the Cibao region, he cited highways such as the Gregorio Luperón and La Turística highways, which interconnect cities like Guayubín, Las Matas de Santa Cruz, Copey, Pepillo, and Salcedo. In the East, he mentioned the Chirino Highway in Monte Plata, among other projects with significant social and economic impact for the country.
"Among the representative and high-impact projects currently underway are the Baní Bypass, which is more than 70% complete, and the Hondo Valle – El Cercado road, which is 81% complete. In the Cibao region, the Villa Elisa–Playa Punta Rusia–La Ensenada highway in Puerto Plata is 90% complete. Meanwhile, the Guerra – Bayaguana highway is 75% complete, and in Higüey, the construction of gabion walls along the Duey River is 70% complete," explained the Ministry of Public Works.
He said that with regard to Greater Santo Domingo, the overpass on Avenida Hípica on the Las Américas Highway is 72% complete; while the Judicial City of Santo Domingo East (Palace of Justice) is 90% complete.
Duarte Highway
The document sent by the MOPC highlights that the section from La Vega to Montecristi was delivered, with works such as the North Ring Roads and the link of the South Ring Road of Santiago and the entrances of Santiago and San Francisco de Macorís (Controba), as well as that of La Vega with the Pontón bridge, pointing out that the Duarte road axis includes operational returns, bridge expansions and from 4 to 6 lanes.
"Along the entire Duarte Highway, some 22 very important related works have been carried out to facilitate transit, such as the Cordilleras Avenues and the Mano Guayabo road. In the first four months of 2025, the toll at KM 32 of the Duarte Highway will be delivered, along with the expansion from 4 to 6 lanes to San Francisco de Macorís (Controba)," he noted.
He added that at kilometer 9 of the Duarte Highway, work is proceeding according to the established schedule, and that, however, due to the complaints expressed by the population regarding traffic flow, work has been arranged to continue 24 hours a day in order to expedite the delivery of this project as soon as possible.
