The Ministry of Tourism and the Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) held their traditional Christmas activity with the participation of more than 200 children from Puerto Plata.
The meeting took place at the Amber Cove cruise port in the Maimón community in the Bride of the Atlantic, where the magic of Christmas enveloped the children of the Avanza Foundation of this demarcation.
The activity is part of the Holiday Gift Project Program developed by the FCCA, where the children received, in addition to the delivery of toys, lunch, artistic shows with Christmas characters, face painting, souvenirs and Santa Claus.
The event was attended by Sharon Mei, director of the Amber Cove port, Ana Gabriella Vílchez, director of Maritime Tourism and Atahualpa Paulino, Northern Regional Director for MITUR, as well as 15 crew members from the Carnival Cruise line Celebration ship and Roni Harari, general manager of Diamonds International, the company that managed the gifts donated by the FCCA to the children.
It is worth noting that this FCCA event has been held in the Dominican Republic for over a decade and aims to provide children from the various communities where the ships arrive with a fun day out and learn about cruise tourism.
The Carnival Celebration cruise ship arrived with 5,718 passengers and 1,749 crew members on an 8-day itinerary, departing from Port Canaveral, Florida. The Mardi Gras cruise ship also arrived, carrying 5,683 passengers and 1,760 crew members. Both ships are 344 meters long and have a capacity of 6,500 people.
This is the first time that two ships of that size have been received at the same time in a port.
