Due to the opening of the Central American Games, the Government has arranged a reduced work schedule for this Friday

The measure aims to facilitate access to the Félix Sánchez Olympic Stadium and reduce traffic congestion during the opening ceremony, which will be attended by approximately 45,000 people

SANTO DOMINGO.– Public institutions located in Greater Santo Domingo will end their workday at 1:00 p.m. this Friday, July 24, as part of the measures adopted by the Government to facilitate mobility during the opening ceremony of the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026, the Presidency of the Republic.

The provision was established through Circular No. 0022855, issued by the Ministry of Public Administration (MAP), and signed by its head, Sigmund Freund, with the objective of reducing vehicular congestion and allowing better movement of citizens, athletes, delegations and personnel linked to the sporting event.

The opening ceremony will be held at 7:00 p.m. in the renovated Félix Sánchez Olympic Stadium, although the gates of the venue will be open from 4:00 p.m., so a significant flow of people and vehicles to the area is expected.

Institutions will be able to adjust schedules according to their needs

According to information released by the government entity, the measure applies exclusively to state institutions located in Greater Santo Domingo.

However, the MAP indicated that the heads of the different entities may establish special schedules when the nature of the services they provide so requires, in order to guarantee the continuity of essential functions and attention to the public.

In this way, organizations related to health, safety, emergencies and other priority services will be able to maintain their operations through differentiated work schemes.

The Property Registry will adjust its hours and maintain digital services

As part of the implementation of the measure, the Real Estate Registry reported that its offices in Greater Santo Domingo (Headquarters, Sambil and Megacentro), will offer services to the public until 1:00 p.m., in compliance with the institutional provision adopted on the occasion of the start of the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026.

The entity indicated that users will be able to continue carrying out procedures and requests through its digital channels and the Virtual Office available on its web portal, in order to guarantee the continuity of services despite the temporary adjustment in the face-to-face schedule.

The biggest sporting event in the region begins

The XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026 will officially begin this Friday with competitions in various sports disciplines that will take place in several venues across the country and will run until August 9.

According to official estimates, around 45,000 people will participate in the opening ceremony, including 30,000 spectators, more than 6,000 athletes belonging to the international delegations and about 9,000 people including artists, dancers, technicians and logistics personnel.

The magnitude of the event makes the opening ceremony one of the largest public gatherings expected this year in the capital, which is why the authorities adopted special measures to facilitate traffic flow and access to the main stage.

Mobility, one of the main challenges of the day

The reduction of the working day is part of the preventive actions implemented by the Government to decrease the volume of vehicles on the main roads of Greater Santo Domingo during the hours prior to the inaugural event.

With this, the authorities seek to facilitate the movement of attendees and contribute to the orderly development of the event that will mark the beginning of the main multi-sport competition in Central America and the Caribbean.
