The agency updated alert levels due to the impact of a trough; the National District and Santo Domingo remain under yellow alert
SANTO DOMINGO. — The Emergency Operations Center (COE) maintains 16 areas of the Dominican territory under alert this Friday, three in yellow and 13 in green, due to weather conditions associated with a trough.
According to the agency's report, authorities are maintaining preventive surveillance in the face of possible effects from the rains, and therefore urge the population to remain attentive to official bulletins and follow the recommendations of civil protection agencies.
The COE identifies three provinces under yellow alert: Puerto Plata, Santo Domingo, and the National District.
Meanwhile, it maintains a green alert for the following districts: Monte Cristi, Dajabón, Santiago Rodríguez, Valverde, Santiago, Espaillat, Hermanas Mirabal, Bahoruco, Independencia, Pedernales, Barahona, San Cristóbal and Peravia.
COE urges people to maintain preventive measures
Given the possibility that the rains could cause flash floods and inundations, the Emergency Center recommended that the population avoid crossing rivers, streams and ravines with high volumes of water, as well as refrain from using swimming areas in zones where weather conditions pose a danger.
Likewise, the population should stay informed through the official channels of the COE and the Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet), in addition to following the instructions of the civil protection agencies.
