The first 6 train cars that will expand line 1 of the Santo Domingo Metro have arrived

SANTO DOMINGO.-The first six of 72 train cars that will be used for the expansion of the trains on line 1 of the Santo Domingo Metro have already arrived in the country, and the equipment will be assembled in 45 to 60 days.

This was reported yesterday by the Office for the Reorganization of Transport (Opret), highlighting that the new cars can be coupled to two similar trains and thus begin the process of expanding capacity on Line 1, and that for this process the manufacturer will need the aforementioned time.

The entity indicated that the capacity of the Santo Domingo Metro-Cable Car Integrated Transportation System will be considerably increased.

He explained that this first delivery is the result of an acquisition process of some 24 train units, each with three cars that can be coupled together in order to double the transport capacity for subway users.

Furthermore, Opret explained that these actions address the current overdemand during peak hours on the aforementioned mass transit system, as announced by Opret's executive director, Rafael Santos Pérez.

"This activity will be repeated every month until all 72 acquired cars are received, with 6 cars being received per month, which will also require installation and commissioning," said the director of Opret.

He stated that these actions are part of the efforts of the government headed by President Luis Abinader for the development of the transportation sector in the Dominican Republic.
