SANTO DOMINGO.-The National District Mayor's Office announced that the city's parks and plazas will remain closed starting tomorrow at noon due to Tropical Storm Franklin.
"With the exception of the parks and plazas on the Malecón coastline of Santo Domingo, which have been closed as of today," reads the notice posted on their Instagram account.
The National Meteorological Office (Onamet) reported this Monday that ocean temperatures have created a favorable environment for the strengthening of Tropical Storm Franklin, whose outer bands have been impacting the national territory since this afternoon.
During a press conference at the Emergency Operations Center (COE), Saddan Front Frías, from Onamet, indicated that the storm is located 390 kilometers south of the province of Santo Domingo and that trajectory models predict that the phenomenon will turn north by early Tuesday morning.
The territories under red alert are the National District and the provinces of Santo Domingo, including the National District, San Cristóbal, Peravia, Barahona, San Juan, Independencia, San Pedro de Macorís, La Romana, San José de Ocoa, Azua Pedernales, Bahoruco and Elías Piña.
The following provinces are under yellow alert: Puerto Plata, Duarte, Hato Mayor, El Seibo, María Trinidad Sánchez, Monte Plata, La Altagracia, La Vega, Santiago Rodríguez, Dajabón, Montecristi, Hermanas Mirabal, Espaillat, Samaná, Monseñor Nouel, Santiago, Sánchez Ramírez and Valverde.
