BANÍ. – The Minister of Public Works and Communications (MOPC), Deligne Ascención, stated this Tuesday that the Baní bypass is 90 percent complete, and that it will be delivered next December.
The official led a supervisory tour of the project, which is 19 km long and will connect 10 provinces in the Southern region with Greater Santo Domingo, and will help alleviate the heavy traffic in the city of Baní.
“We have been working alongside the companies carrying out these projects, conducting a supervisory tour, and we have been able to verify with great satisfaction the progress of the various work fronts that make up this project, the work being carried out, and the quality with which the work is being executed in this final stage,” he explained.
He added that the 16 bridges that connect it are progressing well, as are the interchanges, and the area where the Baní bypass toll will be built.
“This project is being developed with resources from the RD-Vial Trust, so it will have to have a toll to recover the cost of the investment being made here,” he said.
He stated that each bridge infrastructure project is an individual undertaking. “The most important thing is that we can finish with the required quality, but with a quality that does not exceed the established parameters for a road of this nature and characteristics,” he maintained.
He stated that the final stages of the project will be completed by December of this year. “More and more work will be finished; in some sections, the first layer of asphalt has been laid, and others have been primed. Similarly, the base course is 90% complete,” he said.
He said that the number of expropriations carried out by the MOPC was made possible for the community members who live in these communities near the ring road.
“It is a project dominated by its initial complexities, which involved more than 400 expropriations, in which we highlight the collaboration of all community members and owners who did not put up any obstacles, and hand in hand with the support of government and local authorities,” he added.
He explained that the Ministry of Public Works has taken as a criterion in projects such as the Baní bypass to improve the environment of its communities within the possibilities of the existing contract.
“This project borders the city of Baní, from the entrance of Paya to Galeón, and it is the people of Baní who should benefit most from the execution of the project, and we have taken precautions so that it does not happen as on previous occasions where surrounding populations did not receive a direct benefit from the construction of the road,” he said.
The event was attended by Roberto Herrera, Vice Minister of Supervision and Inspection of the MOPC; the Governor of the Peravia province, Ángela Yadira Báez, as well as technicians from the different contracting companies.
