SANTO DOMINGO- Housewives in the least favored sectors could acquire the basic products to prepare the traditional sweet beans of Holy Week for the modest price of RD$350.
This facility will be made possible through popular sales that will be carried out by the National Institute for Price Stabilization (Inespre).
The entity reported that 20,000 “combos” containing 800 grams of beans, evaporated and coconut milk, cinnamon, raisins, cloves, sugar, cookies and vanilla, will be available to consumers in the 70 producers' markets, the 150 mobile bodegas and 250 supermarkets that sell food distributed by Inespre at low cost each week.
These products will also be marketed in detail and may vary according to availability.
It was reported that Inespre will gradually incorporate other basic food basket products that are already sold at affordable prices to the population in different provinces of the country, as a way to alleviate the levels of inflation generated by external factors.
In recent days, complaints have been heard from housewives that this year they will not be able to cook their sweet beans, due to the high prices of basic food items.
Sweet beans are a typical Dominican dessert, especially during Lent and Holy Week.
