SANTO DOMINGO.-The Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) announced the schedule for closing and reopening the Barahona-Enriquillo highway section to vehicular traffic, effective from today, Thursday, September 28, in order to continue work to address the landslides that have occurred there.
The Deputy Minister of Regional Coordination of MOPC, engineer Mélito Santana Rincón, explained that the schedules to be in effect will be the following: From 6:00 to 9:00 in the morning, controlled traffic will be allowed; from 9:00 in the morning to 12:00 in the afternoon, there will be a total closure of traffic.
Between 12:00 noon and 2:00 pm, traffic will be allowed again, while from 2:00 to 5:00 pm it will be completely closed again to resume work.
Traffic will be permitted again from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. From then until dawn, no vehicles will be allowed on that stretch of road, located between kilometers 22 and 23 of the Barahona-Enriquillo highway, near the community of La Ciénaga.
Officers from Digessett, the Military and Police Commission (Comipol) will be in charge of enforcing the road closure program at that section.
Landslides on that stretch of road have caused situations of isolation for various towns, such as Pedernales, Enriquillo, Juancho, Oviedo, Los Cocos, Paraíso, among others.
The Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) apologizes to the public, especially drivers and travelers using this road, for the inconveniences caused by these works, which ultimately aim to provide solutions and improve the free flow of traffic.
