SANTO DOMINGO.- The president of the Chamber of Deputies, Alfredo Pacheco, received this Thursday, from the Executive Branch, the draft law of the “General State Budget 2024”, so that it may be known, discussed and approved by the National Congress.
This bill, which was submitted to the Chamber of Deputies by the Deputy Minister of Finance and Director General of Budget, José Rijo Presbot, contemplates total expenditures amounting to RD$1,371,992.8 million for next year.
During the meeting, Alfredo Pacheco stated that “we will study this project next week so that this legislative body can review and approve it.
He also specified that the Chamber of Deputies will work together with the Senate of the Republic, so that said project can be debated in a bicameral commission.
“We want to inform the country that discussions on this legislative initiative will begin next week so that this important piece of legislation can become a reality within the timeframe established by the Constitution,” he emphasized.
Pacheco emphasized that the most important development instrument for the Dominican Republic is precisely this law that determines the income and how the expenses of those income should be projected.
In other news, Rijo Presbot formally submitted this bill for 2024, so that it can be reviewed and approved by the legislators in plenary session.
“I am confident that the National Congress will always assume its role, control and oversight of public resources, and contribute to the democratic stability of the country,” Presbot emphasized.
Furthermore, in general terms, the design of the budget has as its primary objective to ensure the inclusive and sustainable development of the country, giving priority to the satisfaction of the essential needs of citizens, such as health, education, social assistance, employment and security.
It also significantly addresses the allocation of resources for the protection of the most vulnerable segments of the population, while fostering an environment conducive to the development and promotion of private initiatives that can contribute to maintaining sustained and stable economic growth.
