The President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, and the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, led the inauguration yesterday, Wednesday, of the new boardwalk in the municipal district of La Caleta, La Romana province.
The project, which is part of the actions and vision to restore ocean views to recreational areas throughout the Dominican Republic, had a cost of RD$88,115,153.16.
Abinader highlighted the importance of the new boardwalk for tourism and recreation for its residents, which will continue with a second phase that will benefit all communities in the province.
“We wanted every community facing the sea to have a sea view, boosting real estate investment and developing the economy to create jobs,” the president said.
Collado said the project will have a direct impact on the tourism offerings of the destination.
"Here we are with President Luis Abinader, inaugurating this beautiful boardwalk, a long-held dream of this hardworking community, and fulfilling the commitment we made to you," he said.
He reiterated his commitment to continue rescuing the country's beaches and boardwalks, "because we cannot continue living with our backs to the sea," he said.
The project consisted of the conditioning of 9,800 square meters of marine coastline, including the renovation of 576 linear meters of cobblestone road, from La Playita Park in La Romana.
The work was carried out by the Executive Committee for Infrastructure in Tourist Zones (CEIZTUR), of the Ministry of Tourism.
The scope of the project includes: reconstruction of the road infrastructure, 2,100 square meters of sidewalks on both sides and 1,250 linear meters of curbs; renovation of Playita Park, urban equipment, electrical installations and lighting, solution of the rainwater drainage with complementary water collection installations; landscaping in areas, contemplation viewpoints, among others.

The landscaping design included Gri Gri, Penda, Almácigo, Guáyiga, Wedelia and Silver Mangrove plants.
The equipment for the project consisted of benches, picnic tables, garbage containers – Signage – Concrete bollards – Road and plaza lighting and stainless steel railings.
