Architect Raúl De Moya Español releases book “Conceptualization”

With a deep exploration of the ideas and principles that have guided his professional career, architect Raúl De Moya Español, president of the Dominican University Foundation Pedro Henríquez Ureña (FUDPHU), launched his recent book “Conceptualization”.

De Moya is recognized for his innovative approach and his contribution to sustainable urban development, and in this book he offers a reflection on contemporary challenges in architectural and urban design.

Through this work, the author takes an urban journey through the different eras of architectural history, from primitive civilizations, through Egypt, Greece, Rome, to the present day; showing how architecture, in its different styles of expression, has a hierarchical and symbolic role to highlight what is important, what should be protected and emphasized.

Architect Miguel Fiallo Calderón, rector of UNPHU, who wrote the book's prologue, said: "In this new contribution to academia, architect Raúl De Moya gives us a complete and illustrated lesson on Conceptualization in Architecture.".

He continued: “As we delve into the book, we have at least two sensory experiences; the attraction of the book itself, the intrinsic one that invites you to read it in a single reading, and the other, that of being in the presence of a true cascade of concepts and definitions that overlap with each other, demonstrating that we are in the presence of a true connoisseur of the arts of design and its complex network of approaches.”.

The author shared with the event attendees his motivations for writing "Conceptualization" and how he hopes his book will inspire new generations of architects.

“This project stems from the need that all of us who have a vocation for sharing knowledge feel. We have been living in the information age for a long time, and I don’t think we are moving towards the knowledge age, especially in the context of artificial intelligence,” he said.

He said that all the information is available and organized, but the philosophy of thought and direction remains in our hands. “It is crucial that we reinforce this philosophy; we must teach people to think, to transform that thinking into the result of acquired knowledge. At the university, we must teach them to conceptualize.”

Omar Rancier, dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Arts at UNPHU, presented the author's biography; while Architect Heidi De Moya, director of the School of Architecture and Urbanism, presented the collaborations in the development of the work.

The presentation included remarks from prominent colleagues of the architect, who highlighted the relevance of Conceptualization in the current context.

The event took place in the Max Henríquez Ureña room of the Pedro Henríquez Ureña National University (UNPHU); with the presence of teachers, academics, professionals and those interested in architecture topics.
