The projects include markets, therapeutic centers, institutional buildings, and structural reinforcement work in various provinces across the country
SANTO DOMINGO.– Micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in the construction sector will have exclusive access to public procurement processes worth more than RD$524 million, as part of a set of projects that the Ministry of Housing, Habitat and Buildings (MIVHED) will develop in different provinces of the country.
The information was released by the Minister of MIVHED, Víctor “Ito” Bisonó, during a broadcast last Friday the 12th via YouTube, where he explained that the contracts will be directed only to construction micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs).
According to the official, the works include the construction and adaptation of public infrastructure in towns in Santo Domingo Norte, Salcedo, Tamboril, Bahoruco, Verón, Dajabón and Santiago.
Works in different provinces
Among the announced projects are the La Victoria Municipal Market, therapeutic centers, institutional buildings and the structural reinforcement of the building that houses the Constitutional Court, in addition to other interventions contemplated within the institution's investment program.
Bisonó indicated that three of the contracts have already been published on the website of the General Directorate of Public Procurement (DGCP), while the remaining ones will be announced in the coming weeks.
Greater participation of small construction companies
The initiative seeks to expand the participation of smaller companies in state contracting processes, a segment that has historically faced greater challenges in competing in large-scale projects.
On this point, the president of the Dominican Confederation of Micro, Small and Medium Construction Companies (Copymecon), Eliseo Cristopher, stated that the announced processes will be reserved exclusively for MSMEs in the sector.
The business leader argued that this approach could generate greater opportunities for small local construction companies and contractors, allowing them to access projects financed with public resources and strengthen their operational capacity.
With the opening of these processes, the Ministry will incorporate new works into its project portfolio while expanding the participation of MSMEs in the public procurement market, one of the most dynamic segments within state investment.
