SANTO DOMINGO – The Ministry of Housing, Habitat and Buildings (MIVHED) announced the creation of a permanent dialogue space between the Government and the main actors in the construction industry, with the aim of presenting the challenges facing the sector and promoting joint solutions.
The announcement was made by Minister Victor “Ito” Bisonó yesterday, Tuesday, during the presentation of the 2025 Memoirs of the Dominican Association of Portland Cement Producers (ADOCEM), where he stated that the initiative will be developed together with business associations and organizations linked to construction.
The proposal, which will be called "Alliance for the Development of the Construction Sector", seeks to bring together manufacturers of materials, real estate developers, builders, designers, financial entities and regulatory bodies at the same table.
Housing, infrastructure and competitiveness
According to the official, the new coordination space will allow work on issues considered strategic for the growth of the industry, including the planning of housing and infrastructure projects, strengthening competitiveness and the sustainability of the sector.
“We want to work on issues that are strategic for the development of the sector: infrastructure and housing planning, regulatory strengthening, sustainability, and competitiveness,” Bisonó said during his speech.
The minister argued that the current challenges in construction require closer coordination between the public and private sectors, especially in a context where the activity continues to be one of the main drivers of the Dominican economy.
One table for the entire value chain
Bisonó pointed out that the initiative stems from the need to bring together all the actors involved in the development of construction projects to identify common obstacles and generate coordinated responses.
“This alliance stems from a very simple conviction. The development of the construction sector requires that those who produce the materials, those who design, those who build, those who finance, and those of us who regulate can come together at the same table to build shared solutions,” he stated.
He also indicated that the intention is to establish a permanent working mechanism that allows for monitoring the main issues that impact construction activity and strengthening communication between public institutions and the productive sector.
The sector mobilizes more than RD$230 billion
During his participation in the event, the minister also highlighted the continued dynamism of the construction sector in the country.
He reported that during the first four months of the year, MIVHED issued 365 construction licenses, which support private projects exceeding RD$230 billion in investment.
In his opinion, these results reflect the strategic role that construction plays in generating jobs, the demand for materials, and national economic growth.
“The country’s great transformations have always occurred when the public and private sectors have decided to move forward in the same direction,” Bisonó stated.
