Public Works reports that the beams have been placed on the new bridge that will connect Higüey with La Otra Banda

The Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) reported this Friday that the construction of the bridge over the Anamuya River, which connects the municipality of Higüey with the community of La Otra Banda, in the province of La Altagracia, is in its final phase.

The information was provided by the Deputy Minister of Regional Coordination of MOPC, Luis Bastardo, who supervised the placement of the sixth and final support beam of that structure this Thursday.

The official visited the town of La Otra Banda, where he inspected the progress in the construction of the project.

He explained that the work is in a very advanced stage and that after the last beam is placed, the formwork and concrete pouring process will begin, followed by the asphalt paving phase.

"After the placement of the beams, comes the formwork process to pour the reinforced concrete slab, the curing and then the final paving, so we are close to delivering the bridge to the community, the province and the country," he said.

He said that a good number of citizens from all over the country pass through there, "and even from the world, because of the population of the tourist area we have.".

He emphasized the importance of this project, both for La Altagracia province and for the local communities. He explained that these initiatives are part of a series of interventions ordered by President Abinader to strengthen infrastructure and promote the progress of the various communities.

He said that the MOPC is also building a bridge over the Maimón River, in the community of Anamuyita, whose residents had been demanding this for decades.

Ruddy Martinez, speaking on behalf of the community, said that the residents of La Otra Banda “breathe a sigh of relief seeing that Public Works is keeping its word, by placing the last beam of this bridge.”.

“As community members, and especially myself, today we feel happy and content, because we know the need for the bridge for a province and thank God we have it in our province.”.

Also attending the event were the provincial governor, Martina Pepén Santana; Billiyan Tavárez, provincial director of the MOPC, as well as contractors of the work, among others.
