SANTO DOMINGO.-The Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) announced this Tuesday that it has decided to intervene in the overpass at Kilometer 14 of the Duarte Highway, in the vicinity of the La Sirena Supermarket.
A statement from the Ministry's Communications and Press Department highlights that the bridge will undergo a remodeling of the original design, "because it cannot be expanded without affecting the lanes above and below the structure.".
It points out that the structure has been damaged by an original flaw, with insufficient height and width for the passage of trucks and other types of heavy vehicles, causes that have caused repeated damage, despite the fact that it had previously been repaired by the MOPC.
Public Works also details that the structure, being built as a "box bridge", the design does not support an expanded improvement intervention, since it cannot be raised or deepened to allow the passage of trucks.
He announced that he will prohibit the passage of all types of vehicles that exceed the dimensions of the bridge, for which he will require the action of the General Directorate of Transit and Land Transport (Digessett), to enforce the provision.
