SANTO DOMINGO.-The Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) reported this Wednesday that it has ordered the preventive closure of vehicular traffic in the section of the El Derrumbao area, on the Barahona-Enriquillo highway, due to the rains that are occurring and that have caused the saturation of the soils.
The measure was adopted because the rains could cause landslides, with the risk of causing serious accidents.
Engineer Robinson Durán Rodríguez, supervision coordinator of the Vice Ministry of Supervision and Inspection of the MOPC, explained that the saturation of the soils, added to the weight and vibrations of the vehicles, could cause fatal accidents in the El Derrumbao area.
Public Works brigades remain on site, maintaining constant vigilance until it is determined that the road is in suitable condition to be reopened to vehicle traffic.
