SANTO DOMINGO –The Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) will close several underpasses and bridges in Greater Santo Domingo to vehicular traffic from Monday, September 4, through Saturday, September 9, to carry out maintenance work.
The work includes solid waste collection, sweeping and debris removal, weed control, general cleaning of the surrounding area, and drainage improvements, among other tasks. The closures will be in effect from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. the following day.
For this Monday, the closures correspond to the overpasses of Mirador Sur Avenue with Italia Avenue, Núñez de Cáceres Avenue with Cayetano Germosén Avenue, Independencia Avenue, George Washington Avenue, Jacobo Majluta Avenue with La Isabela Highway (dry bridge).
Also, 27 de Febrero Avenue with Máximo Gómez, the Duarte Highway overpasses with Los Beisbolistas and Monumental Avenues; the Jacobo Majluta bridge over the Isabela River, and the Núñez de Cáceres Avenue tunnel.
On Tuesday, work will be carried out on the overpasses of Luperón Avenue with the 30 de Mayo Highway, Duarte Highway with Duarte Street (Los Alcarrizos), Charles de Gaulle Avenue with the highway to San Isidro, and Mella Highway.
On Tuesdays and Saturdays, the overpasses on the Duarte highway will be closed at kilometers 13 (intersection of Prolongación 27 de Febrero and República de Colombia) and 14.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday and Wednesday, maintenance will be carried out on the Ortega y Gasset Avenue tunnel (UASD).
On Wednesday, the underpasses at Ortega y Gasset Avenue with 27 de Febrero Avenue, Máximo Gómez Avenue with Duarte Avenue (dry bridge), the elevated section of Máximo Gómez Avenue with Nicolás de Ovando Avenue, and the Ozama, Francisco J. Peynado, and Gregorio Luperón bridges will be closed.
On Thursday night, the following overpasses will be closed: Sánchez Highway with Independencia Avenue (Kilometer 12), Quinto Centenario Expressway with Duarte Avenue, Hermanos Pinzón Street, and San Martín Avenue; the Konrad Adenauer Avenue underpass with Hermanas Mirabal Avenue, and the Jacobo Majluta bridge near the entrance to Guaricano.
Also, on Thursday, electrical maintenance will be carried out in the Las Américas tunnel (between Venezuela and Sabana Larga avenues).
On Friday, the following bridges will be closed: the 6 de Noviembre highway, the Sánchez road, Ramón Matías Mella and Francisco del Rosario de Sánchez; the overpasses of Prolongación 27 de Febrero with the 6 de Noviembre highway, and the Padre Castellanos avenues with Francisco del Rosario Sánchez, the Winston Churchill overpasses over John F. Kennedy (in both directions).
Electrical maintenance will also be performed on Friday at the control centers of the Ortega y Gasset, Las Américas, and 27 de Febrero tunnels. This work will not require any closures.
On Saturday, the underpasses or dry bridges of the John F. Kennedy Expressway with Luperón, and San Vicente de Paul Avenue with Venezuela, will be closed.
