SANTO DOMINGO –The Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) announced that it will close vehicular traffic – from Monday, July 31, until Saturday, August 5 – on various overpasses and bridges in Greater Santo Domingo, in order to carry out maintenance work on these structures.
The work includes solid waste collection, sweeping and debris removal, weed control, general cleaning of the surrounding area, and drainage improvements, among other tasks. The closure hours are from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. the following day.
From today, Monday, until Friday, painting work will be carried out on the metal railings of the Sánchez Highway bridge (no closure required). The Juan Bosch and Juan Pablo Duarte bridges, as well as the 27 de Febrero overpass, will be closed.
On Tuesday, the closures correspond to the overpasses of the Las Américas marginal road, 27 de Febrero with Tiradentes, John F. Kennedy with Máximo Gómez, Kennedy with Ortega y Gasset, the tunnels of 27 de Febrero with Abraham Lincoln and Winston Churchill, of Las Américas, and Las Américas marginal road.
On Wednesday, work will be carried out on the overpasses of 27 de Febrero with Doctor Defilló and Carmen Mendoza, 27 de Febrero with Núñez de Cáceres, 27 de Febrero with Privada, the elevated sections of Kennedy with Lope de Vega with Tiradentes, Kennedy with Abraham Lincoln, and the Francisco J. Peynado and Gregorio Luperón bridges.
On Thursday night, the following pedestrian overpasses will be closed: 27 de Febrero at Máximo Gómez, 25 de Febrero at the intersections with Avenida España, from the Faro de Colón, and with San Vicente de Paul. Also closed will be the pedestrian overpass at the intersection of the San Isidro highway and 25 de Febrero, Las Américas Oeste at 25 de Febrero, and San Isidro at Las Américas.
Also, the following will be closed: the Floating Bridge and Gregorio Luperón, the overpasses of the Duarte highway with Sánchez street (Piedra Blanca, Bonao), 27 de Febrero with Ortega y Gasset, the Las Américas highway overpass with marginal Las Américas (dry bridge), and the Konrad Adenauer (Charles de Gaulle) with Hermanas Mirabal, in Santo Domingo Norte.
The long tunnel of Las Américas, located between Venezuela and Sabana Larga avenues, will be closed on Thursday and Friday nights.
On Friday, the following overpasses will be completely closed: Las Américas with Avenida Hípica, Las Américas with Route 66 (South-West), Las Américas with Route 66 (East-South), Las Américas with Calle 7/6 de La Caleta, Las Américas with Puerto Caucedo, Las Américas with Calle José Francisco Peña Gómez, and Jacobo Majluta-La Isabela.
This Friday also sees the closure of the Santo Domingo-Samaná highway overpass, the Jubey-Boca Chica road (dry bridge), the Jacobo Majluta bridges (near the entrance to Los Guaricanos), and the new Las Américas overpass.
On Saturday, the following areas will be affected: the overpasses or dry bridges of San Vicente de Paul with Las Américas, San Vicente with Venezuela, Plaza de la Bandera, Reyes Católicos with Respaldo 42, with Avenida del Zoológico and with Calle Ramon Cáceres.
