SANTO DOMINGO.– The 2024 General State Budget bill includes reductions in the budget allocations of the Ministries of Housing, Habitat and Buildings (Mivhed) and Public Works and Communications (MOPC), ranging between 31.4 percent and 30.4 percent, respectively.
The initiative, which was submitted by the Executive Branch to the Chamber of Deputies on September 28 and which includes a budget amounting to 1 trillion 371,992.8 million pesos, establishes a series of reductions and increases in budget items.
Related to industry, the Ministry of Housing, Urban Development and Housing (MIVHED) leads the list of reductions because in the current budget its income amounts to 19,334.5 million pesos and in the budget presented for the year 2024, an allocation for that portfolio is established that is around 13,272.3 million pesos, equivalent to 6,062.2 million pesos less.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC), which has a budget of 70,855.5 million pesos this year, would see its allocation reduced by 49,321.8 million pesos next year, that is, 21,533.7 million less.
The Ministry of Tourism did not fare as well, whose current budget allocation is 9,232.4 million and for 2024 would have been allocated 10,076.6 million; an additional 844.2 million, an increase equivalent to 9.14 percent.
Other details
In 2022, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development (MIVHED) executed a budget of 18,325.5 million pesos, and its initial 2023 budget allocation was 13,401.0 million pesos.
According to data published on the transparencyfiscal.gob.do portal, MIVHED's current budget is 19,334.5 million pesos, and to date, it has recorded expenditures of approximately 12,080.2 million pesos, representing 63.60 percent of the budget allocated for this year.
Public Works and Tourism Ministry (Mitur):
According to statistical data provided by Fiscal Transparency, the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) had an initial budget this year of 49,629.9 million pesos, and its current budget is approximately 71,756.5 million pesos. To date, it has registered total expenditures of 37,360.6 million pesos, equivalent to 53.08 percent.
As for the Ministry of Tourism (Mitur), that institution had an initial budget of 10,706.0 million pesos and has a current budget of 9,232.4 million pesos. Total expenditures reported to date are 2,964.8 million pesos, representing 32.34 percent of its budget execution.
