Opret reports there will be traffic interruptions on the Duarte Highway on Sunday, December 3rd due to roadwork

SANTO DOMINGO- The Office for the Reorganization of Transportation (OPRET) announced today that work will be carried out this coming Sunday, December 3, on the construction of the new Santo Domingo metro line towards Los Alcarrizos, which involves the relocation of the electrical wiring on the Duarte Highway near the 27 de Febrero Extension (KM 13).

These traffic disruptions will begin at 9:00 a.m. and continue until 4:00 p.m., with six brief traffic interruptions planned to remove and relocate the power lines that currently cross the highway parallel to the new route.

OPRET (the Office for the Relocation of Power Lines) stated in a press release that this measure is necessary to ensure safety during the power line relocation process.

The agency also detailed that it is working in conjunction with Edesur Dominicana, the Dominican Electricity Transmission Company (ETED), the National Institute of Transit and Land Transportation (INTRANT), and the General Directorate of Traffic and Land Transportation Safety (DIGESETT) to implement these measures efficiently and safely, prioritizing minimizing disruption to citizens.

OPRET recommends that citizens needing to enter or leave Santo Domingo during these hours use the Santo Domingo Bypass as an alternative route to avoid travel delays.

OPRET also announced that power will be interrupted in some areas of the municipalities of Santo Domingo Oeste and Los Alcarrizos from 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

"The institution appreciates the public's understanding and cooperation during the execution of these works, which aim to improve the city's transportation infrastructure," OPRET stated.

The new Santo Domingo Metro line is an ambitious project that seeks to expand the city's public transportation network, facilitating the movement of citizens and reducing congestion on main roads.

This initiative is part of the efforts undertaken by the authorities to improve urban mobility in Santo Domingo.
