6 trends you won't stop seeing for decorating small spaces in 2024

Multifunctional furniture is a good idea for maximizing space, but it won't be a trend when decorating a small apartment in 2024. The Spanish magazine Arquitectura y Diseño analyzed some of the decorating trends for next year.

Don't hold back with the color

After a period in which minimalism reigned supreme in decorating small spaces, we now live in the age of color. Choose accessories with personality, such as colorful cushions with vibrant textures for the sofa; a plant to add a fresh and natural touch; paintings in bold colors; or a wall in an earthy tone (like the one in this photo) to bring depth to the space.

Embrace a remastered seventies aesthetic

What we might call a remastered seventies aesthetic has been quietly conquering homes with its elegant warmth for the past few months. Forget the "Tell Me How It Happened" style; we're talking about adapting a more maximalist and socially conscious style that's trending in 2024. Chocolate browns, oranges, plaid patterns on sofa upholstery or cushions, the return of velvet… there are ideas from the seventies, a decade that doesn't appeal to everyone decoratively, that have been refined to arrive in homes with a fresh new look. In the coming months, we'll see living rooms with low tables, pouf-style seating, sofas in toasted browns, and the occasional classic piece that contributes to this new aesthetic we're referring to, as is the case here with the Akari 9AD by Isamu Noguchi.

Sliding doors with gold details

Sliding doors are very versatile. Aesthetically, they often add a touch of style, but above all, they save a lot of space because they don't take up the 80 cm that traditional hinged doors do when they open. They are especially useful in closets and bathrooms. Here, the gold detail adds an elegant touch.

The washing machine is permanently moving to the bathroom

If you have more space in the bathroom than in the kitchen, try to find room for the washing machine there. Hiding it behind a cabinet door is one of the most effective classic solutions. In this case, the dryer has been placed above it. Generally speaking, for both aesthetic and functional reasons, it's a good idea to find space for these appliances in the bathroom.

XXL mirrors to attract everyone's attention in the living room

Do you like this XXL mirror? Place it in a prominent spot in your living room. To the already established feeling of spaciousness, you'll add scale, contrast, volume, and above all, visual impact, because the mirror will become the focal point.

Furniture to separate (without dividing)

Defining uses visually without completely separating them, with multifunctional furniture like the piece you see in the image, is a clearly growing trend. In the bedroom area, it serves as a bookcase; in the living room, it provides space for the television and other decorative accessories. The lower section can be used for storage. Often, these "boxes" even house the bathroom within. In short, it's a trend that is revolutionizing interior design, especially in small spaces.
