Opret reiterates closure of five Santo Domingo Metro stations from July 16 to 20

SANTO DOMINGO– The Office for the Reorganization of Transportation (OPRET) reiterated to the public yesterday, Tuesday, that the temporary closure of the five elevated stations of Line 1 of the Santo Domingo Metro is necessary to carry out the change of the signaling system, a key step that will allow, starting in early August, the circulation of six-car trains, with the aim of offering a more agile, comfortable and safe service for all.

The measure will take effect from Wednesday, July 16th to Friday, July 18th, with the suspension of service between the José Francisco Peña Gómez and Mamá Tingó stations. On July 19th and 20th, service will be interrupted on the section between the Hermanas Mirabal and Mamá Tingó stations.

The agency explained that during the service interruption, Santo Domingo Metro users will have access to buses operated by the Metropolitan Bus Services Operator (OMSA) at no additional cost for round trips between the affected stations. From Wednesday, July 16, to Friday, July 18, continuous bus service will be available, stopping at the affected elevated stations, while on Saturday, July 19, and Sunday, July 20, service will be increased according to passenger volume.

The institution urged users to plan their trips and leave earlier in the next three days, taking into account that traveling by train is not the same as traveling in city traffic.

Likewise, OPRET thanked users for their understanding regarding this measure, which, although temporarily inconvenient, is essential for the benefit of the country in order to have a more efficient and modern mass transit system.

In that regard, the institution emphasized that it is working to ensure that everyone can soon enjoy a Metro system with greater capacity and less congestion, to improve mobility in the city.
