SANTO DOMINGO.-To comply with Law 139-97, which establishes the transfer of holidays, the Ministry of Labor announced the dates of the holidays that will govern for the Dominican Republic, during the next year 2424.
Law No. 139-97, dated June 19, 1997, regarding the transfer to Mondays of holidays that coincide with Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays or Fridays, was published in Official Gazette No. 9957, dated June 25, 1997 and came into effect on the 27th of the same month and year, therefore, in accordance with the provisions of the legislation, it must be applied in all establishments in the country, the entity states.
In 2024, the country will have 12 public holidays and six long weekends. The holiday period begins on Monday, January 1st, New Year's Day, which remains unchanged, while Saturday, January 6th, Three Kings' Day, also remains the same.
According to the Ministry of Labor, Sunday, January 21, the day of Our Lady of Altagracia, is not changed; however, Friday, January 26, the date on which the birth of Juan Pablo Duarte is commemorated, is a working day and is changed to Monday, January 29.
February 27th, Dominican National Independence Day, is a Tuesday and is a fixed holiday, as is Friday, March 29th, Good Friday, a religious holiday commemorating the death of Jesus Christ.
Wednesday, May 1st, Labor Day, is a regular workday and will be observed on Monday, April 29th. Thursday, May 30th, is Corpus Christi and will not be moved. Restoration Day, Friday, August 16th, is a fixed holiday, as indicated in Article 35 of the Constitution of the Republic, according to Supreme Court ruling number 14 of February 20, 2008.
Tuesday, September 24th, the Feast of Our Lady of Mercy, will be celebrated on its scheduled date, while Wednesday, November 6th, Constitution Day, will be observed on Monday, November 4th. Wednesday, December 25th, Christmas Day, will remain unchanged.
