SANTO DOMINGO- Yermys Peña is one of the construction professionals concerned with the sustainable development of the country and in the projects she designs, the outstanding Dominican architect always imbues the component of user well-being and climate viability.
Their new venture is Paseo Isleño, a villa complex in Punta Cana that will opt for Edge certification and ensures energy and water savings of at least 20%.
"Buildings can cause indirect pollution by using many resources to operate. Therefore, it is important to include elements in their design that help maintain a balance with the environment and make them sustainable," says Peña.
He adds that it is necessary for buildings to be adaptable to extreme changes caused by the climate, in order to guarantee minimum conditions for life and resistance in the works.
Paseo Isleño arose from the intention to innovate architectural designs in the East of the Dominican Republic, specifically in Punta Cana, to improve the quality of life in this important tourist area through architecture, with projects that do not negatively impact the sector, explains the author of the proposal.
It adds that the goal is to develop contemporary family villas that provide a healthy, sustainable and unique living space, in accordance with the lifestyle of the inhabitant.
Peña designed the first sustainable building in Santo Domingo and is renowned for creating innovative, functional, sustainable, harmonious, stable, and inviting spaces. She has been the architect behind projects such as Villas Icaria, Evia, Naxus, and more.
Peña has extensive experience in sustainable design, bioclimatic architecture, and urban planning. She graduated as an architect at age 20 but has worked in the sector since she was 19. She is CEO and Partner of the construction company Construger and founder of Studio YP.
