SANTO DOMINGO.– The National Institute of Transit and Land Transportation (INTRANT) announced that theoretical and practical exams for all categories of driver's licenses in the country have resumed, as part of the process of strengthening the national evaluation system.
According to the institution, the measure applies both to those applying for their license for the first time and to those who must complete the process in accordance with current regulations.
Motorcyclists must complete a full evaluation
According to information provided by INTRANT, applicants for category 1, corresponding to motorcycles, must pass both the theoretical exam and the practical test.
The agency indicated that the decision seeks to ensure that drivers have knowledge of traffic regulations and basic driving skills, especially in a segment that is among the most vulnerable on the roads.
Furthermore, the agency clarified that the simple registration option for motorcyclists is no longer available. The current system is the formal issuance of a license in accordance with the law.
There is no increase in the cost of the service
INTRANT clarified that there has been no increase in rates.
- License renewal: RD$1,900
- First issue, regular category: RD$2,500
Those who obtained their license under the previous registration system must complete the current process, which includes:
- Road safety talk
- Medical evaluation at CEMECO
- Theoretical exam
- Practical exam
- Certificate of good conduct
- Payment due
Heavy vehicles: specific requirements
Regarding the heavier weight categories, INTRANT noted that:
- Category 3 authorizes the driving of minibuses, buses and 2-axle trucks.
- Category 4 allows you to drive buses with more than 40 passengers, flatbed trucks and trucks with 3 or more axles.
The institution indicated that those applying for these categories for the first time must present themselves with the corresponding vehicle to carry out the practical test, a requirement that is a mandatory part of the evaluation process.
Increased user flow and operational adjustments
The agency explained that, due to the high volume of citizens coming to process licenses, operational adjustments are being made to improve customer service.
The full reactivation of the exams is part, according to INTRANT, of the actions aimed at raising evaluation standards and strengthening road safety, promoting more responsible driving in the country.
