The specialized entity indicated that it will await the technical assessment before issuing conclusions about the causes
SANTO DOMINGO.- The National Office of Seismic Evaluation and Vulnerability of Infrastructure and Buildings (ONESVIE) reported that it will send a technical team to the Buena Vista I sector, in Villa Mella, where a residential building collapsed on Tuesday.
The director of the institution, Leonardo Madera, explained that a structural survey will be carried out in the area before offering an official assessment of the causes of the collapse.
The official specified that the entity, responsible for evaluating the structural safety of infrastructure and buildings, will act in accordance with its technical protocols to determine the conditions of the land and nearby constructions.
No casualties, but assessment pending
According to information provided by the Civil Defense in Santo Domingo Norte, the collapse did not leave any people injured, although material losses were reported.
Local authorities indicated that there is collateral damage resulting from the landslide and that other homes in the surrounding area may require preventive inspection.
According to reports from the community, water seepage and runoff accumulation were observed at the site of the collapse. Nearby excavations were also mentioned as a possible contributing factor, although ONESVIE has not confirmed any of these hypotheses.
Structural safety in residential areas
For the real estate sector, ONESVIE's intervention is key, as it will allow us to determine whether the collapse was due to soil conditions, construction failures, inadequate drainage management, or external factors.
The technical survey will not only establish the causes of the event, but could also determine if mitigation measures are required in nearby homes.
