SANTO DOMINGO.-The National Institute of Transit and Land Transportation (Intrant)announced this Thursday that it has prohibited the circulation of cargo transport throughout the national territory, including permits granted for the Restricted Access Zone (ZAR), as part of the road safety measures adopted for the Christmas and New Year holidays.
The measure, contained in Resolution 013-2024, explains that, for the Christmas Eve , the circulation of cargo vehicles is prohibited from Monday, December 23 , 2024, starting at 6:00 a.m., until Thursday, December , 2024 at 5:00 a.m.
For the New Year holiday , the ban begins on Monday, December 30 , 2024, at 6:00 a.m. and will extend until Thursday, January 2 , 2025, at 5:00 a.m.
Owners of vehicles dedicated to freight transport are reminded that they must register their vehicles in the National Registry of Freight Vehicles.
Permits will only be granted for the transport of goods considered priority or perishable , and the types of vehicles that can request the permit are: vans, trucks, ambulances , emergency vehicles and those of water service in tanker, as well as vehicles that, duly identified, provide service for breakdowns and maintenance of electricity, cable, telephone, sanitation, road, assistance and urban hygiene.
Regardless of the type of merchandise to be transported, permits will not be granted for double-tailed or double-trailer trucks, oversized and/or overweight loads.
Failure to comply with the provision established in this resolution will be sanctioned with one (1) minimum wage that prevails in the decentralized public sector, in accordance with article 281 of Law No. 63-17 and article 69 of regulation 258-20, on cargo transport, both to the owner of the unit and to the driver, a press release highlights.
As a requirement, heavy vehicles must be registered in the National Registry of Cargo Vehicles and authorized by Intrant, through permits with QR protection for their control, obtained and paid online, until December 21, 2024, following the instructions available on the website www.intrant.gob.do.
For the validity of circulation permits, vehicles must comply with the resolutions issued by the institution, regarding smooth tires, LED lights, pointed nuts and the speed of 70 kilometers per hour for heavy vehicles, as well as driving in the right lane on highways
