Intrant prohibits the circulation of cargo vehicles with two or more axles on the Malecón, starting this Friday, January 31

SANTO DOMINGO.-The National Institute of Transit and Land Transportation (Intrant) and the Mayor's Office of the National District (ADN) announced that the circulation of cargo vehicles with two or more axles is prohibited on the Malecón of Santo Domingo, in the section between the Port of Santo Domingo and the Luperón Avenue interchange.

The traffic restriction, which will begin this Friday, January 31, has been announced several times by Intrant. The last announcement was made in September of last year, affecting more than three lanes from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

According to Intrant, the measure that comes into effect this Friday will be monitored by the General Directorate of Transit and Land Transportation (Digesett).

The measure seeks to prevent traffic accidents, "controlling the circulation of heavy vehicles in urban areas, due to recent incidents caused by reckless drivers.".

According to information for trucks heading to the Port of Santo Domingo, the John F. Kennedy Avenue – Francisco del Rosario Sánchez Avenue route has been established as mandatory, in accordance with the provisions of the Restricted Access Zone (ZAR) of the National District.

Circulation permits in the restricted area will only be granted between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. in person at the Mayor's Office of the National District, through the Directorate of Transit and Urban Mobility, in coordination with the Cargo Directorate of Intrant.

Emergency vehicles, public services and telephone services are exempt from this restriction.

"This measure aims to improve traffic safety and flow in these key areas of the capital. The restriction covers the entire George Washington Avenue (Santo Domingo Malecón) and the 30 de Mayo Highway (Maritime Promenade), in the section from the Port of Santo Domingo to the Luperón Avenue interchange," Intrant stated.
