Intrant orders immediate removal of vans parked on Las Américas and Luperón avenues

SANTO DOMINGO.-The National Institute of Transit and Land Transportation (Intrant) gave a 24-hour deadline to remove their trucksto drivers who use public roads as parking lots, without considering the risks of such an action.

The call comes in response to recent social media complaints from concerned citizens , as trucks and vans are frequently seen parked on the sidewalks of George Washington Avenue and Gregorio Luperón Avenue, as well as the Las Américas marginal road.

In this regard, there was recently an accident on the side of the Las Américas highway, where a driver hit a container located on the public road, in front of the facilities of a freight transport company.

In expressing solidarity with the unfortunate event, the executive director of Intrant, Milton Morrison, warned that they will be strict in enforcing Law 63-17, on Mobility, Land Transportation, Transit and Road Safety of the Dominican Republic.

“This unfortunate incident reinforces the urgency of ensuring the proper use of our streets and avenues, as well as compliance with established traffic regulations,” Morrison said.

He reminded everyone that placing containers, trucks, or other stationary items in traffic areas without proper authorization is completely illegal and will be punished according to the law.

“We strongly urge freight transport companies and all involved entities to refrain from carrying out this type of occupation of the roads without the corresponding permits,” he added.

The safety of all road users depends on strict compliance with these regulations. Therefore, failure to comply with these responsibilities will be subject to inspection and penalties according to the law.

Intrant values citizen oversight as a key element in its actions, and therefore invites citizens to remain vigilant and collaborate by reporting any irregular situations that may jeopardize road safety.

Their participation and feedback are essential for the effective fulfillment of Intrant's functions and for strengthening a culture of responsibility and respect on the roads.

Audit underway

Intrant reaffirms its commitment to the road safety of all citizens and, in joint work with the General Directorate of Traffic Safety and Land Transport ( Digesett ), is carrying out a program of inspection and supervision in different critical points of the city , where other similar cases have been intervened to guarantee respect and legality in the use of the roads.
