ODAC renews INDOCAL's accreditation and guarantees greater safety in construction materials

SANTO DOMINGO– The Dominican Accreditation Body (ODAC) announced the renewal of the accreditation of the Dominican Institute for Quality (INDOCAL), reaffirming its capacity to conduct essential inspections in the construction sector. This accreditation, in accordance with the ISO/IEC 17020:2012 standard, certifies that INDOCAL's Inspection Department meets strict international standards, ensuring the quality and safety of materials used in the nation's infrastructure.

The accreditation covers the Dominican Technical Regulation RTD 458, which regulates the quality of deformed and smooth steel bars for concrete reinforcement, and ACI 318-08 for structural concrete. With this verification, INDOCAL guarantees that the inspected materials meet the necessary controls, increasing the sector's confidence in their quality and their ability to withstand the structural demands of construction and remodeling projects.

The executive director of ODAC, Ángel David Taveras Difo, stated that this accreditation not only reaffirms INDOCAL's ability to evaluate critical materials in construction, but also represents important support for the safety and durability of infrastructure in the country.

He also noted that this accreditation demonstrates INDOCAL and ODAC's commitment to ensuring that construction projects are developed to the highest standards of quality and safety. "This represents a guarantee for all Dominicans that infrastructure is built with materials evaluated and approved under international standards," Taveras Difo affirmed.

By ensuring that materials meet established quality requirements, both institutions strengthen confidence in the sector, allowing construction companies and the public to trust in the safety of structures built in the Dominican Republic.

ODAC is the entity responsible for accrediting and certifying conformity assessment bodies in the Dominican Republic. This includes laboratories, inspection bodies, and certification bodies that verify the quality and safety of products, services, and systems. Through accreditation, ODAC ensures that these entities comply with international standards, promoting confidence in assessment processes and strengthening competitiveness and quality in the country.

INDOCAL, for its part, is the agency responsible for establishing quality standards in the Dominican Republic, ensuring that products, services, and processes meet high standards of safety and efficiency. Through inspections, certifications, and regulation of measuring instruments, INDOCAL contributes to the competitiveness and reliability of key sectors in the country.
