Punta Cana accounted for more than half of the flow, while December led in arrivals and January in departures
SANTO DOMINGO. The Dominican Republic's international airports handled 20,300,048 passengers during 2025, including arrivals and departures, according to the 2025 Yearbook of Economic Statistics, prepared by the National Statistics Office (ONE). Of the total, 10,136,415 travelers entered the country and 10,163,633 departed for international flights.
The figures reflect a virtually balanced international air traffic, with a difference of just 27,218 more passengers departing than arriving. Furthermore, activity registered significant variations throughout the year, with an increase during the summer months and at the end of 2025.
December led international entries
The last month of the year saw the highest volume of travelers arriving in the Dominican Republic. In December, 1,079,115 people entered the country, surpassing one million and overtaking July, which reached 1,002,166.
March came in next, with 907,716 arrivals, while January totaled 901,389. June reached 867,760 and August counted 853,743.
In contrast, September recorded the lowest arrival flow, with 595,603 travelers, followed by October, which counted 689,496.
During the other months, February accumulated 813,599 entries, April 846,867, May 761,506 and November 817,455.
January led the departures
The behavior of travelers leaving the country showed a different dynamic. January led international departures, with 996,046 passengers, followed by March, with 973,102; July, with 957,912; and August, with 947,150.
December closed with 865,941 departures, while April accumulated 877,890. February reached 836,926, June 817,030, November 776,622 and May 775,940.
The lowest level was in September, when 667,006 people left the country, while October was slightly higher, with 672,068.
Punta Cana dominates international traffic
Punta Cana International Airport, in La Altagracia, concentrated the largest proportion of international air traffic during the period.
The terminal received 5,659,706 travelers and dispatched another 5,671,183, for a total of 11,330,889 passengers between arrivals and departures.
Arrivals through Punta Cana alone accounted for approximately 55.8% of the national total, while departures had a virtually identical share.
December was the busiest month for this terminal, with 590,230 arrivals. July came in second with 538,566, while January reached 500,727. March contributed 552,725, February 475,175, April 493,667, May 446,883, June 480,877, August 441,398, September 307,378, October 370,797, and November 461,283.
In terms of departures, January led the way with 543,083 passengers, followed by July with 525,714; December with 512,676; August with 486,978; February with 477,153; March with 576,531; April with 509,431; May with 448,123; June with 467,562; September with 330,232; October with 356,525; and November with 437,175.
September marked the lowest level in both directions, although the terminal maintained a considerably higher flow throughout the year than the other entry and exit points of the country.
The Americas maintains second place
Las Américas International Airport in Santo Domingo handled 2,712,142 arrivals and 2,711,111 departures during the year.
The capital city's terminal accounted for approximately 26.7% of international arrivals and a similar proportion of departures.
December saw the arrival of 295,318 travelers, the highest monthly figure of the year for this connection point. July contributed 280,899, August 257,677, January 229,672, February 183,808, March 197,132, April 209,355, May 202,423, June 234,487, September 192,309, October 207,585, and November 221,477.
On the departures side, August led the way with 279,391 travelers, followed by July with 267,138; January with 256,818; December with 220,468; February with 198,350; March with 214,268; April with 209,374; May with 207,753; June with 219,982; September with 215,374; October with 207,620; and November with 214,575.
The Cibao region surpasses 2.2 million movements
Cibao International Airport in Santiago received 1,140,108 travelers and saw off 1,156,049, reaching a cumulative total of 2,296,157 passengers.
July saw the highest arrivals, with 135,017 people, while December totaled 116,250, August 114,976, June 113,325, January 90,824, February 78,784, March 79,399, April 87,202, May 84,304, September 72,607, October 81,928 and November 85,492.
Departures peaked in August, when 136,222 passengers left the country through this terminal. July saw 121,721 departures, January 107,860, February 84,009, March 94,094, April 91,472, May 88,535, June 95,289, September 93,837, October 83,380, November 82,381, and December 77,249.
Puerto Plata recovered activity towards the end of that year
Gregorio Luperón International Airport, located in Puerto Plata, handled 408,989 arrivals and 409,335 departures.
The terminal started the year at a high pace: January received 53,933 travelers, March added 52,941 and February reached 51,414. April contributed 39,964, May 16,938, June 23,361, July 29,081, August 21,340, September 13,359, October 20,004, November 33,386 and December 53,268.
In terms of departures, March reached 59,718 passengers, January 59,328, February 52,059, April 47,812, May 19,521, June 20,904, July 26,255, August 25,095, September 15,511, October 16,614, November 28,388 and December 38,130.
La Romana mobilized more than 273,000 travelers
La Romana airport recorded 134,694 arrivals and 138,690 departures, for a total of 273,384 passengers.
January saw 17,255 arrivals, March 16,648, February 15,898, April 9,918, May 6,568, June 11,447, July 12,531, August 12,149, September 6,170, October 5,356, November 8,420 and December 12,334.
Departures peaked in January, with 19,678 travelers, followed by March, with 18,725; February, with 16,934; April, with 12,009; May, with 7,400; June, with 9,627; July, with 11,686; August, with 12,929; September, with 7,976; October, with 4,733; November, with 7,734; and December, with 9,259.
Catey rebounds in December
The Professor Juan Bosch International Airport, El Catey, in Samaná, received 49,685 travelers and dispatched 48,270.
After going through months of low activity, particularly May and June, when arrivals stood at 1,907 and 1,879 passengers respectively, the terminal increased its flow towards December.
Monthly arrivals were 6,589 in January, 6,494 in February, 6,339 in March, 4,324 in April, 1,907 in May, 1,879 in June, 3,074 in July, 3,579 in August, 1,259 in September, 1,341 in October, 4,659 in November and 8,241 in December.
In terms of departures, January registered 6,539 travelers, February 6,161, March 7,515, April 5,500, May 2,188, June 1,544, July 2,944, August 3,561, September 1,789, October 782, November 3,971 and December 5,776.
Isabela maintains a stable flow
Dr. Joaquín Balaguer International Airport, La Isabela, in Santo Domingo, recorded 30,491 arrivals and 28,637 departures.
Arrivals ranged from 2,002 passengers in February to 3,451 in December. During the other months, January saw 2,378 travelers, March 2,522, April 2,393, May 2,475, June 2,303, July 2,975, August 2,567, September 2,306, October 2,405, and November 2,714.
Departures, meanwhile, reached their highest level in August, with 2,925 travelers. January saw 2,723 departures, February 2,226, March 2,237, April 2,185, May 2,412, June 2,105, July 2,427, September 2,277, October 2,356, November 2,394, and December 2,370.
San Isidro and Barahona have a marginal participation
San Isidro Air Base handled 571 arrivals and 338 departures during 2025. Arrivals included 11 passengers in January, 24 in February, 10 in March, 44 in April, 8 in May, 81 in June, 13 in July, 53 in August, 215 in September, 79 in October, 20 in November, and 13 in December.
In terms of departures, January contributed 17 passengers, February 34, March 14, April 107, May 8, June 17, July 17, August 43, September 10, October 58, November 0 and December 13.
María Montez International Airport in Barahona had the lowest volume of flights in the analyzed network, with 29 arrivals and 20 departures throughout the period. Arrivals were zero between January and June, while July saw 10, August 4, September 0, October 1, November 4, and December 10. Departures reached 10 in July, 6 in August, and 4 in November, with no passengers recorded in the other months.
More than eight out of ten movements pass through Punta Cana and Las Américas
Geographic concentration is one of the main features shown by the statistics.
Punta Cana and Las Américas alone accounted for 16,754,142 passengers between arrivals and departures, equivalent to approximately 82.5% of all international traffic recorded in 2025.
Including Cibao International Airport, the figure rises to 19,050,299 passengers, representing almost 94% of the total.
This leaves the remaining terminals with a much smaller share of international traffic, although some experienced significant variations during certain periods of the year.
A year marked by strong monthly differences
The statistical behavior also shows a marked seasonality.
Arrivals went from 595,603 passengers in September to 1,079,115 in December, a difference of 483,512 travelers between the two extremes.
In terms of departures, January saw 996,046 passengers, compared to 667,006 in September, representing a gap of 329,040 travelers.
In annual terms, the Dominican Republic received 10.13 million international passengers and saw off 10.16 million, maintaining a close relationship between both flows.
Data from the 2025 Yearbook of Economic Statistics of the National Statistics Office (ONE) provides a snapshot of the monthly behavior of international air mobility in the country and highlights the strong concentration of this activity in Punta Cana, Santo Domingo and Santiago.
