SANTO DOMINGO.– The government of President Luis Abinader has already repaired more than 10,000 homes affected by Hurricane Fiona, an atmospheric phenomenon that made landfall in the Dominican Republic last month, leaving damage in 12 provinces.
At an evaluation meeting on the reconstruction work ordered by the head of state, it was also reported that 98% of the drinking water and electricity services had already been restored.
In addition, it was announced that more than 400 kilometers of access roads have been enabled, and a total of 30 cubic meters of debris have been collected, in which work more than 250 heavy vehicles have been used, according to a press document from the presidency.
Regarding the agricultural sector, the Ministry of Agriculture is providing one thousand pesos to producers for each acre of land affected by Hurricane Fiona.
At the meeting, it was indicated that the affected bridges, as well as the local roads in the impacted provinces, will be reopened.
Similarly, President Abinader ordered the repair of homes that were in poor condition before the passage of the meteorological phenomenon.
The provinces affected by Hurricane Fiona were Hato Mayor, El Seibo, Samaná, La Altagracia, La Romana, María Trinidad Sánchez, Monte Plata, San Pedro de Macorís, Santiago, Duarte, La Vega and Santo Domingo.
