SANTO DOMINGO.– The Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC), through the RD-Vial Trust, began this Thursday the national public bidding process for the design and construction of the Amber Highway, a new road that seeks to transform mobility between the Cibao region and the north coast.
The road will link the Santiago North Ring Road with the Puerto Plata–Sosúa route, with the purpose of speeding up travel to tourist centers and improving road safety in one of the areas with the highest economic flow in the country.
According to RD-Vial, the project is part of the government's plan to expand and modernize strategic road infrastructure, reducing travel times and strengthening connectivity between key provinces such as Santiago, Puerto Plata and their areas of influence.
President Luis Abinader recently explained that the project will have an estimated investment of RD$8.5 billion, which will be managed under the structure of the road trust.
The call for bids, identified by reference FIDEICOMISO-CCC-LPN-2025-0010, is being conducted in accordance with Law 340-06 on Public Procurement and its current regulations. Interested parties may access the Terms and Conditions starting November 27, both in person at the RD-Vial offices and on the digital platforms of the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) and the Electronic Public Procurement System (SECP), where proposals will also be accepted in digital format.
RD-Vial reminded that only bidders registered in the State Supplier Registry (RPE) will be able to participate, an essential requirement to submit valid proposals.
A key route for tourism and logistics in the north
The Amber Highway is conceived as a strategic corridor to improve the movement of goods and passengers, facilitating access to tourist destinations such as Puerto Plata and Sosúa, as well as boosting trade and investment throughout the northern region.
According to the MOPC, the new road will contribute to a more integrated, modern and competitive road system, aligned with the vision of logistics and tourism development promoted by the Government.
