President Luis Abinader stated that the problem of power outages "has been going on for years" without being resolved and that for the "first time" a government has a plan to solve the electricity "deficit." "The power outages have everyone fed up, and for many years this is one of the problems that has gone unresolved for years, decades... so we do have a plan to solve it," the president expressed.
Government submits bill to eliminate the Cdeee and the Uers

Marranzini attributes the deficit to the fact that the 2010 study was not completed
Celso Marranzini attributed the current electricity deficit to the previous government's failure to hold the 2018 tender required by demand studies to supply future energy needs with new power plants. Marranzini explained to Listin Diario that the 2010-2030 expansion plan was not fulfilled, and according to studies, the country needs to add 125 megawatts to the system every year, which hasn't happened since the Catalina plant came online seven years ago in 2019. Quisqueya 1 and Quisqueya 2 came online in 2012, and those were the only additions; since then, only one major plant, Catalina, has been added.

Financial leases have grown by 46.2%
The Dominican Republic's Association of Multiple Banks (ABA) reported that the banking sector has increased its financial leases (leasing) by RD$2.889 billion over the past four years, showing a cumulative growth of 46.2% during that period. The ABA explained that financing provided by multiple banks through leasing increased from RD$6.254 billion in 2018 to RD$9.143 billion at the end of 2021.
Indocal will inspect batches of electricity meters
The Director General of the Dominican Institute for Quality (INDOCAL), Lorenzo Ramírez, announced the approval by the Dominican Council for Quality (CODOCA) of the Metrological Technical Regulation for the Inspection Procedure of Batches of Electricity Meters by Sampling, in order to guarantee the reliability of measurements from these instruments for consumer protection. This inspection aims to metrologically verify that batches of new meters entering the Dominican Republic meet established quality standards.
