SANTO DOMINGO.- After several days marked by high temperatures and an atmosphere laden with Saharan dust, a tropical wave will begin to affect the Dominican Republic, favoring the development of downpours and thunderstorms in different provinces of the country.
The Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) reported that during the early hours of the day isolated showers will be recorded in locations in the northeast, southeast and the Central Mountain Range, but it will be in the afternoon when the precipitation intensifies due to the combination of a tropical wave, a trough at various levels of the troposphere and the effects of the wind.
According to the agency, the downpours could be moderate, accompanied by thunderstorms and isolated gusts of wind, especially over the provinces of Monseñor Nouel, La Vega, Monte Plata, Santiago Rodríguez, Valverde, Dajabón and Monte Cristi.
The rain will continue into the night
The meteorological institute indicated that rainfall will continue overnight in eastern provinces, Greater Santo Domingo and parts of the south of the country.
Among the areas where short-duration showers could occur are La Altagracia, El Seibo, Hato Mayor, La Romana, San Pedro de Macorís, Monte Plata, Santo Domingo, San Cristóbal, Peravia and Barahona.
In the National District and the municipalities of Santo Domingo, cloud cover is expected to increase, accompanied by showers and isolated thunderstorms.
The heat will continue to dominate
Despite the increased rainfall, temperatures will remain quite hot due to the time of year and the presence of Saharan dust particles over the national territory.
Indomet forecasts maximum temperatures between 31 and 33 degrees Celsius, while minimum temperatures will range between 23 and 25 degrees.
Given these conditions, the institution recommended staying hydrated, wearing light-colored, lightweight clothing, and avoiding prolonged sun exposure between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., especially for children and the elderly.
Warning issued about abnormal waves
The meteorological agency also drew attention to abnormal maritime conditions on the Caribbean coast, and recommended that vessel operators stay alert to updates in the marine forecast.
The atmospheric conditions associated with the tropical wave will continue to affect the country during the next few hours, maintaining the possibility of rain in different regions and a hot environment characteristic of this time of year.
