SANTO DOMINGO– The National Hurricane Center (NHC) reported Wednesday the formation of Tropical Storm Cristobal in the Atlantic Ocean, located midway between Bermuda and the Portuguese archipelago of the Azores. Forecasts indicate the storm could continue moving eastward.
In that regard, the tropical cyclone does not pose a threat to the Dominican Republic, due to its location and projected path. It is estimated that the system could dissipate by next Thursday before making landfall. Currently, it has maximum sustained winds of up to 75 kilometers per hour (km/h).
The NHC indicated, through a bulletin issued at 11:00 a.m. Eastern Time (3:00 p.m. GMT), that Cristobal is located about 1,420 kilometers from the Azores and is moving east at an approximate speed of 41 km/h.
Climate in the Dominican Republic
The Dominican Institute of Meteorology (INDOMET) predicted this Wednesday downpours accompanied by possible thunderstorms and occasional gusts of wind, mainly over locations in the northern and northeastern regions, the eastern plains and the Caribbean coast, due to the influence of a tropical wave located over the western part of Haiti.
Rainfall will be recorded in the provinces of Santiago Rodríguez, Valverde, Puerto Plata, Dajabón, Monte Cristi, Espaillat, La Vega, María Trinidad Sánchez, La Altagracia, El Seibo, Hato Mayor, Monte Plata, Monseñor Nouel, Azua, San Juan and San Cristóbal, as well as in Greater Santo Domingo and other nearby locations.
