Deligne Ascención says rehabilitation of traffic on the Barahona-Enriquillo highway will take several days

The Minister of Public Works and Communications, MOPC, engineer Deligne Ascención, said yesterday that the work to restore traffic on the Barahona-Enriquillo highway will take several days, because landslides may continue.

The official visited the site yesterday, Monday, to supervise and direct the road rehabilitation work and assured that a definitive solution will be given to the landslides that frequently occur at various points along the road, under the advice of geologist Osiris de León.

Ascencion traveled early in the morning to the landslide area, where teams and brigades from the MOPC are working on rehabilitating the passage through the San Rafael road.

The minister was accompanied by MOPC technicians and contractors from the companies carrying out work in the area.

Ascención indicated that these landslides occur very frequently and that the ministry has been responding to this situation in order to prevent these phenomena from recurring and causing a tragedy in these places.

In a press release, the MOPC highlights that this road has been undergoing work for several years, "in an effort to resolve these types of problems, which have repeatedly affected the communities connected to this road.".

Public Works apologized to users affected by the inconvenience, while guaranteeing to resolve the problem in the shortest possible time.

"In light of the landslides that regularly occur on El Derrumbao hill between Ciénaga and San Rafael, on the Barahona-Enriquillo highway, the Ministry of Public Works reports that it is preparing to carry out work to enable the passage interrupted as a result of the landslides that have occurred in that place," the MOPC said earlier.
