SANTO DOMINGO – The Ministry of Public Works (MOPC) moved up the opening of a U-turn on one of the main thoroughfares of the National District. This is the U-turn on Avenida 27 de Febrero in front of the Ministry of Defense, an area with high traffic volume for cars and public transportation daily.
However, this opening was not scheduled for this Friday but for the weekend when traffic would be lighter. The institution clarified this in a statement published on its social media. The idea was to implement the traffic change on Saturday and Sunday so that drivers could familiarize themselves with the new U-turn.
During the morning hours, dozens of vehicles were caught in traffic jams on Avenida 27 de Febrero due to the changes. Mobility officials and MOPC personnel were present at the scene helping to facilitate traffic flow and also indicated that the new U-turn was already operating normally.
For this reason, the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) apologized to the public for any inconvenience caused and reiterated its commitment to “timely, responsible, and transparent communication.” It also stated that it will ensure order, road safety, and the public interest during the execution of these works.
