SANTO DOMINGO.– Cementos Progreso announced the opening of the call for entries for the sixth edition of the Regional Journalism Award in Sustainability, which will be held in the Dominican Republic, positioning the country as a meeting point for journalists and students interested in telling stories that promote sustainable development in the region.
According to the company, the call for entries will be open from June 10 to August 14 and journalists and students from Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia and the Dominican Republic can participate with works in written, audiovisual and radio formats.
A space to tell impactful stories
Since its inception, the award has gathered hundreds of works focused on topics such as circular economy, inclusion, environmental education, social innovation and community development, highlighting stories that contribute to a broader understanding of the social, environmental and economic challenges of Latin America, explained the organizing entity.
Enrique García, executive vice president of the Caribbean Region of Cementos Progreso, highlighted the role of journalism in building more informed societies.
"Journalism plays a fundamental role in how we understand the social and environmental challenges of our region. With this award, we seek to recognize work that, with rigor and depth, contributes to a more informed conversation about sustainability," he said.
The Dominican Republic will host
The company emphasized that the selection of the Dominican Republic as the venue for the sixth edition reaffirms its commitment to sustainable development and to strengthening journalistic practice in the region.
Karina Cruz, Communications and Public Affairs Manager of Cementos Progreso Dominicana, noted that the competition provides a platform to promote journalism capable of highlighting common challenges and fostering solutions.
"Hosting this edition represents an opportunity to continue strengthening rigorous journalism committed to the transformations that our societies demand," he stated.
Evaluation and awards
The works will be evaluated by a jury made up of specialists in journalism, communication and sustainability from Latin America, who will take into account criteria such as narrative quality, investigative rigor, diversity of sources, thematic relevance and innovation in formats.
In the journalists' category, first place will receive a prize of US$5,000; second place will receive a Flip drone, and third place an Apple iPad Mini. Meanwhile, the winner of the student category will be awarded AirPods 4.
Strengthening journalism on sustainability
María Andrea Salvadó, Corporate Communications Manager at Progreso, stated that the initiative seeks to recognize those who, through communication, contribute to raising awareness and promoting positive changes in society.
With this sixth edition, Cementos Progreso reaffirms its commitment to journalism as a strategic ally to promote a culture of sustainability and foster stories capable of enriching public debate and providing solutions to the challenges facing the region.
