SANTO DOMINGO.— For thousands of families, access to adequate housing remains one of the main challenges. Beyond simply having a house, having a decent roof over one's head often represents greater security for individuals and their close networks.
Based on this reality, the Fundación Futuro Cierto presented an initiative that seeks to expand its housing construction and comprehensive development programs in vulnerable communities across the country through a network of solidarity contributions from citizens, companies, and institutions.
According to the organization, the proposal includes a minimum annual contribution of RD$50 for each member of the family unit in the Dominican Republic, as well as contributions from Dominicans residing abroad and from public and private entities interested in supporting social projects.
The foundation, chaired by Franciscan priest Fray José María Guerrero, reported that it is currently developing work in communities such as Rancho La Guardia, in the municipality of Hondo Valle, Elías Piña province, in addition to planning future interventions in Villa Duarte, and the Valiente sector, in Santo Domingo Este.
More than building a house
According to the Fundación Futuro Cierto, the program is not limited to the construction of homes, but seeks to support families with educational, environmental and technical training initiatives that contribute to improving their living conditions.
The organization stated that since its creation in 2013, it has built 36 homes in Rancho La Guardia, Elias Piña province, and is developing literacy programs, youth training, and regenerative agriculture projects aimed at strengthening local economies.
For Fray José María Guerrero, the goal is to promote a culture of solidarity that will broaden the scope of these actions and benefit a greater number of vulnerable households.
Housing as a development tool
The organization believes that improving housing conditions should be accompanied by opportunities for education, entrepreneurship, and environmental stewardship, with the aim of generating a sustainable impact on communities.
In this regard, the foundation called on private companies, international cooperation agencies, public institutions, and citizens to explore different forms of technical and financial collaboration that would strengthen this model of social intervention.
According to information provided by the entity, the goal is to consolidate a support network capable of expanding the programs it currently develops in the province of Elías Piña and gradually extending them to other communities in the country with high levels of poverty.
