SANTO DOMINGO – Improving a home's flooring, painting a room, or repairing damaged spaces can represent a significant change for many families. With this goal in mind, Habitat for Humanity Dominican Republic announced that it will hold another edition of Women Build, a volunteer event that brings women together to participate in home improvement projects in vulnerable communities.
According to the organization, this will be the fourth edition of the initiative in the country, a program that is part of an international movement developed in the different places where Habitat for Humanity operates, which will take place on June 19.
More than a day of volunteering
According to the organization, the interventions are mainly focused on floor improvements and painting work, actions that seek to contribute to creating safer and more suitable spaces for the beneficiary families.
The organization indicated that, in its three previous editions, the initiative mobilized more than 35 women from companies and civil society organizations, accumulating 118 hours of community service.
Women's participation in community actions
Habitat for Humanity explained that Women Build seeks to promote greater participation of women in housing construction and improvement activities, while strengthening community work and collaboration between volunteers, businesses and social organizations.
The national director of the entity, Cesarina Fabián, pointed out that access to adequate housing directly influences the stability and well-being of families, so this type of initiative seeks to provide concrete solutions to housing needs.
Scope of the organization
Habitat for Humanity Dominican Republic reported that it has impacted more than 275,000 people through programs related to housing, community development, access to housing finance and strengthening security of tenure.
