SANTO DOMINGO.- The Association of Housing Developers and Builders of Cibao (APROCOVICI) will hold the conference “Building to Protect and Save” next Wednesday, September 23, a meeting dedicated to the analysis of new technologies and innovations aimed at strengthening seismic-resilient infrastructure in the Dominican Republic.

The event will take place at 6:00 p.m. in the Auditorium of the Centro León, in Santiago de los Caballeros, and will feature the participation of architect Cristián Wittig Grell, who will discuss experiences and solutions developed in Chile regarding construction and prevention in the face of seismic events.

Technology and seismic resilience

The meeting will focus on the tools and technological advances that can contribute to improving the ability of buildings to respond to earthquakes and other phenomena associated with seismic activity.

The topic is especially relevant for the Dominican construction sector, due to the need to incorporate prevention, innovation and safety criteria in the development of infrastructure and housing projects.

Chilean experience as a reference

Chile is one of the international benchmarks in construction with seismic resilience criteria, due to its experience with large-magnitude earthquakes and the development of regulations, construction systems and technologies aimed at reducing risks to buildings and their occupants.

In this context, Wittig Grell's participation will allow us to learn about experiences and approaches applied in that country and analyze their possible connection with the challenges facing the Dominican Republic.

A topic of interest to the construction sector

The activity is part of the efforts to create spaces for the exchange of knowledge about structural safety, technological innovation and the preparation of the real estate and construction sector for natural risks.
