SANTO DOMINGO.- Her interest in decoration arose from her love for transforming spaces and creating welcoming and functional environments.
From a young age, Angela Duran was fascinated by decorating magazines and spent hours designing and decorating rooms in her mind.
While her connection with the real estate sector came about naturally, since decoration and interior design are essential elements to add value to any property.
“Being part of someone’s dream come true, where they can acquire their own home and enjoy every space in it with their family, fills my soul,” says the young designer.
Furthermore, he was able to observe in the province of La Altagracia, where he resides, the great need in the tourism sector for interior designers who also have a multidisciplinary team like the one he currently leads.
Over time, decoration and the real estate sector became her two passions with which she divides her time, without neglecting the care of her family.

Furthermore, she had the opportunity to study interior design professionally in Altos de Chavón, which allowed her to formalize this passion and acquire the necessary knowledge to excel in this field, she tells El Inmobiliario.
His two roles
“Combining my roles as an interior designer, real estate agent, mother, and wife has been challenging, but also a rewarding experience. The key is organization and time management,” she explains.
She adds that she dedicates part of her day to her design projects, to her store ilumas, which she owns, and in the afternoons she focuses on her family.
In addition, he has a team of professionals that allows him to delegate tasks and maintain a balance between his personal and professional life.
She says that her family's support has been fundamental to being able to successfully perform both roles.
Sacrifices
The path to success in interior design has required significant sacrifices such as long working hours, sleepless nights, and the constant need to stay up-to-date with the latest trends and technologies in design, says the young professional.
“I’ve also had to learn to say no to certain projects in order to maintain a healthy balance between my personal and professional life. However, every sacrifice has been worth it when I see the satisfaction of my clients and the positive impact my designs have on their lives,” she says.
Illumas
The idea for her decorating business arose almost two decades ago, when she realized the need for high-quality design services in the East area.
“I started by opening the doors of Ilumas, where I gained valuable experience and established a solid reputation, which still remains.”.
Recently, she decided to launch her personal brand, Angela Duran/Interior Designer/Decorator, to offer her services independently and reach a wider audience.
“My goal is to transform spaces into true homes and destinations, creating memorable experiences for my clients and consequently bringing happiness to every home.”.
Future projects
In the future, she plans to expand her interior design services to cover more tourist and residential areas in the Dominican Republic.
“I am working on several exciting projects, including the decoration and furnishing of boutique hotels, luxury villas and commercial spaces.”.
She would also like to launch a line of furniture and decorative accessories that reflect the style and essence of her work.
“My goal is to continue growing and adapting to market trends, always offering innovative and personalized designs.”
Real Estate Agent
Angela believes that the real estate sector in the Punta Cana area and the East of the Dominican Republic is booming.
The growing demand for tourist, residential and short-term rental properties, such as Airbnb apartments, has generated unprecedented dynamism.
Likewise, investment in infrastructure and the arrival of international tourists have boosted the development of high-quality projects.
“As an interior designer, I see great potential in this market to offer design services that not only beautify spaces, but also increase their value and appeal.”.
He advises young people who want to become decorators to follow their passion and never stop learning.
Interior design is a constantly evolving field, and it's crucial to stay up-to-date with the latest trends and technologies.
“Don’t be afraid to take risks and experiment with different styles. Creativity and innovation are essential to stand out in this industry.”.

Challenges in interior design with the internet
For Ángela, the internet presents both opportunities and challenges for interior designers. On the one hand, it offers a platform to showcase their work to a global audience, connecting with potential clients and staying abreast of the latest trends.
“However, it also means that we are in a highly competitive market where customers have access to a wide range of options and styles. The challenge lies in differentiating ourselves and maintaining a unique value proposition.”.
Furthermore, the rapid spread of information requires decorators to be authentic and transparent in their communication and customer service.
Currently, Angela Duran is married and has a family that has always supported her in her career.
