The Spanish airline will increase its weekly flights to 19 during the summer, driven by high demand and the growth of tourism in the country
SANTO DOMINGO – The Dominican Republic continues to solidify its position as one of the most sought-after destinations in the Caribbean, a trend reflected in the growth of air operations. For this year's summer season, Air Europa will increase its weekly flights to the country to 19 and projects to transport approximately 600,000 passengers.
The information was released by the Ministry of Tourism (Mitur), which highlighted statements made by Francisco “Paco” Pérez, Air Europa's regional director for the Caribbean, regarding the strengthening of the airline's operations in the Dominican market.
According to the executive, the company will go from 425,000 passengers transported during 2025 to almost 600,000 travelers in the current summer season, driven by greater demand to the Dominican Republic.
More flights to Santo Domingo, Santiago and Punta Cana
According to information shared by Mitur, Air Europa will operate 11 weekly flights through Las Américas International Airport (AILA), three weekly flights through Cibao International Airport and five weekly flights to Punta Cana.
Pérez pointed out that Punta Cana accounts for approximately 55% of the passengers using the airline's services in the country, making that destination the main recipient of tourists transported by the company.
Dominican Republic gains ground as a safe destination
Air Europa's regional director attributed part of the growth in operations to travelers' preference for destinations with stability and good tourist infrastructure.
“When there are problems in other destinations like Cuba, Mexico and Jamaica, tourists obviously prefer a safe destination with good infrastructure, and that is one of the elements that makes the airline grow to those levels in the Dominican Republic,” he said, according to Mitur.
He also highlighted the performance of the Dominican tourism sector and assured that even during May, considered a period of low demand, flights registered full occupancy.
Historical figures
The executive indicated that the company has recorded results superior to those obtained during the same period last year, a situation he attributed to the Dominican Republic's positioning within the Caribbean and the tourism promotion policies developed in the country.
“We are registering historic figures,” Pérez stated, according to information released by the Ministry of Tourism.
