Abinader announces emergency plan to rebuild 35 bridges and roads damaged by Fiona

SANTO DOMINGO- President Luis Abinader decided this Monday to launch an emergency reconstruction plan after hearing a report from the Minister of Public Works, Deligne Ascención, on the magnitude of the damage caused by Hurricane Fiona.

"In the eastern region alone, between small and major bridges, 35 are affected and require reconstruction," the president explained, as an example of the scale of the investments needed.

This emergency plan involves repairing bridges, secondary roads, and rural roads. A special program for pothole repair and reconstruction of streets, sidewalks, and curbs will also be implemented in the municipalities.

The last municipality that had yet to have its electricity service restored was Miches, which was resolved last night, Sunday, but several municipal districts still remain without power.

"This afternoon we will report on the actions that have been taken so far, and I also believe we will have an estimate of the damage," the head of state said.

Abinader met with Deligne Ascención, engineers and some of the Public Works staff for about two and a half hours at the institution's headquarters.

At 6:00 p.m., the president will hold a press conference to provide details on the government's prepared response to the disasters caused by the atmospheric phenomenon.
