Apordom instructed the closure of all ports until weather conditions allow for normal operation.
SANTO DOMINGO.– The National District Mayor's Office reported yesterday, Tuesday, that traffic was closed on the section of the Malecón in Santo Domingo from Luperón Avenue to Abraham Lincoln Avenue, due to strong waves and rainfall caused by the effects of Hurricane Beryl.
He explained that the measure aims to preserve the safety of passersby.
He suggested that citizens avoid walking along the Malecón in Santo Domingo due to the rains and abnormal waves.
Meanwhile, the Emergency Operations Center (COE) recommended that citizens refrain from observing the waves due to the effects of the hurricane and avoid accidents caused by debris thrown on the coastline.
Meanwhile, the National Meteorological Office urged vessel operators to remain in port, from Cabo Cabrón (Samaná) to Isla Beata (Pedernales) because the natural phenomenon will produce dangerous maritime conditions.
He called on residents in coastal areas to take the necessary precautions and stay away from areas most prone to surf and possible penetrations in low-lying coastal areas.
He emphasized that throughout the rest of the night and into the early morning, as Hurricane Beryl continues moving over the waters of the Caribbean Sea, it will cause cloudiness across much of the country with moderate to heavy downpours, occasional thunderstorms, and strong gusts that could reach tropical storm force, primarily affecting provinces along the Caribbean coast, the eastern plains, the north, northeast, the Central Mountain Range, and the border region. Dangerous waves exceeding 15 feet in height with strong surf are expected along the Caribbean coast.

The Emergency Committee of the Dominican Port Authority also reported that, due to the possible effects of the meteorological event, especially the high waves it will cause, it has decided to suspend the entry, exit and movement of ships, starting yesterday, Tuesday, July 2, at 6:00 a.m.
The closed ports were: La Romana port, La Cana, San Pedro, Boca Chica, Caucedo, Santo Domingo, Río Haina, Punta Catalina, Azua, Barahona and Cabo Rojo.
In that order, all vessels are instructed to leave in order to preserve the safety of the ports and the physical integrity of the personnel.
The fishing vessels must be brought ashore to prevent further damage. They also reported that operations will resume as soon as weather conditions permit.
