SANTO DOMINGO- More than 70 homes belonging to the historical heritage inventory of Santo Domingo will be beautified in Gazcue by two entities that seek, with the plan, to maintain the original characteristics of the buildings.
The National District Mayor's Office (ADN) and Pinturas Popular announced this week the "Paint Your Gazcue" project, a pilot plan that in its first stage will rescue and beautify 30 homes with heritage value and that are part of the architectural and historical inventory of that sector.
The project will encompass two stages through which it is intended to rescue and beautify more than 70 houses of heritage value, which will be painted on the exterior, and also includes sidewalk repairs and landscaping, explains a press release.
The first stage consists of 30 homes and the second stage will have 40 homes, explained Mayobanex Suazo, the city council's Director of Urban Planning.
Gazcue is a heritage sector of the capital with great architectural value, which is why throughout all these years there has been a struggle to maintain it as an urban area worthy of protection.
This pilot plan by the city council and Pinturas Popular is also the result of consensus and evaluation with various sectors and institutions that promote the care and defense of local heritage, also integrating neighborhood associations and owners of properties with these characteristics, generating a proposal that seeks to restore the splendor and color of the architectural value of the historic Gazcue sector.

The document states that the Environmental Management Directorate of the city council will be responsible for rescuing and maintaining the gardens of the homes, thus restoring the garden city concept to this important sector of the National District, while the Urban Infrastructure Directorate will be responsible for the readjustment of the sidewalks through the rescue process that is currently underway.
“I would like to thank the mayor for allowing us to accompany her on such an important project as the visual revitalization of this iconic area of Gazcue, and reiterate our willingness to continue supporting her in other projects,” said Rubén Acevedo, executive vice president of Pinturas Popular.
“Pinta tu Gazcue” integrates hundreds of architecture students from different universities as volunteers in the renovation process, which represents an important step in generating a sense of protection and appreciation of heritage among future local architecture professionals.
The opening ceremony of “Pinta tu Gazcue” held at the Fray Antonio de Montesino Monument was also attended by the director of the Historic Center, Diana Martínez; the general secretary of ADN, Ricardo Ayanes; the technical secretary, Jesús D'Alessandro; councilors and directors of the council, members of the neighborhood associations of Gazcue and others.
