LA VEGA.– The Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) reported this Friday on the reopening yesterday of the Antonio Guzmán bridge, located over the Camú River, after being out of service for more than two years due to reconstruction work carried out by the competent authorities.
The rehabilitation of this infrastructure will restore the connection between different sectors of this important city of La Vega.
According to the press release, the new structure is part of the intervention carried out by the MOPC to replace the old bridge and improve safety and road connectivity conditions at this point.
Why was the bridge closed?
The viaduct remained closed due to the advanced deterioration of its old structure, which was in deplorable condition and represented a serious danger to citizens.
For this reason, the authorities proceeded to its total demolition in order to carry out a complete replacement project, with the purpose of ensuring greater safety for users.
Time out of service
The closure occurred on April 27, 2024. Since then, traffic remained completely interrupted for two years, three months and 17 days, after the authorities closed the viaduct after detecting subsidence, cracks and serious structural failures that put drivers at risk.
Accumulated failures on the bridge
The infrastructure was repaired to ensure the safety of pedestrians and drivers traveling through the area, due to the significant damage it had accumulated over time.
The Ministry of Public Works and Communications demolished the old structure and built a completely new one, designed to meet high safety standards.
With this reopening, both pedestrians and drivers will be able to use this important route again to travel and connect with other communities via the bridge.
